Mono cartons, rigid boxes and corrugated boxes: how to choose
Compare folding mono cartons, rigid presentation boxes and corrugated outer packs by intended use, structure and quotation needs. A practical Alide guide.
Mono cartons: a folding product format
A mono carton is a folding paperboard pack. It provides printable panels for a product range and is commonly considered for compact retail packaging. Shape, board specification, opening style and artwork panels must fit the item. It should not automatically be treated as a transport carton.
Rigid boxes: a presentation structure
Rigid boxes use a more substantial board structure with an outer covering or wrap. They can suit gifting and presentation where the opening experience matters. Discuss the item fit, lid or drawer style, insert needs and finished appearance. The visual effect of a mockup does not confirm the final material or construction.
Corrugated boxes: plan around handling
Corrugated constructions are discussed for transport, mailer and outer-pack requirements. Specify product weight, packing arrangement, stacking and handling conditions. Dimensions and print coverage alone do not define protective performance. Confirm the board specification and any testing needed for your actual application.
Choose by the job the pack must do
Start with protection, presentation, packing sequence and destination. Some products need a retail carton inside a separate shipping carton. Others use a mailer as the outer pack. Ask about the full packing system rather than comparing three formats only by their appearance.
What to send for a comparison quotation
Share the same product dimensions, weight, quantity and destination for each option. State the presentation goals, insert requirements and artwork versions. Request a separate specification and quotation for each suitable construction so the comparison reflects equivalent requirements.
